It’s official - the race for the mayor seat is on.

Ward 4 Councillor Ann Lawlor filed to run for the position today (June 17), going up against Ward 2 Councillor Bryan Lewis.

The long-time Georgetown resident said she feels the Town has been a leader on everything from environmental issues to employment growth - a path she wants to ensure the municipality stays on if elected.

“I’m very proud to be on a Town council that is forward-looking and progressive, and I want to continue that legacy,” she told HaltonHillsToday. “Big things can happen in small towns, and I think Halton Hills is a beautiful example of that.”

Lawlor said she’s also looking forward to embracing and managing growth.

“We live in a beautiful community of towns and hamlets that are surrounded by lush countryside. My vision is to preserve that character while celebrating and managing the growth that is coming, and that will bring more prosperity,” she said in a prepared statement.

Lawlor was first elected to council in 2010 and has served on a variety of municipal and community committees.

Outside of council, the mother of three administers the historic Devereaux House, which she helped save from demolition and restore as a local landmark.

She has held executive positions on several local non-profit organizations and most recently founded Trees for Halton Hills.
