The Town of Halton Hills and the Halton Hills Fire Department are advising residents that a special air quality statement and burn ban are currently in effect due to dry conditions and wildfire smoke from the Quebec fires.

No open air burning is permitted at this time, the Town says.

"A burn ban is in effect due to dry conditions and high levels of air pollution due to smoke from forest fires," the Halton Hills Fire Department said in a Twitter post.

"Smoke over Ontario is expected to continue into Wednesday with persistence through the remainder of the week a possibility based on the evolution of events," the Town added on Instagram.

"Residents, especially those with respiratory conditions are encouraged to use extra caution during this time."
