The Eden Mills Writers’ Festival (EMWF) has announced its festival Sunday schedule.
The popular event held in the village of Eden Mills will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 and include a full afternoon of programming for both adults and children featuring more than 40 authors.
Event attendees are invited to explore the ebb and flow of family life with authors Jamie Chai Yun Liew, Lisa Moore, and David A. Robertson, who present their evocative new novels as part of “Kim Lang’s Set: In the Family”.
Samantha M. Bailey, Jennifer Hillier, and C.S. O’Cinneide discuss the power of the unreliable narrator and introduce their thrilling new page-turners in the set “Who Can You Trust?”, hosted by Guelph Public Library CEO Steven Kraft.
“Writing the Environment” is presented in partnership with the Guelph Institute for Environmental Research (GIER). Join Merilyn Simonds and Julia Zarankin, both writers by trade and bird-lovers by happenstance, to hear how the science and art of birding, along with the act of writing about it, requires deep intelligence, curiosity, and leaps of creativity. The conversation will be moderated by GIER Director Dr. Madhur Anand (a scientist, poet, and birder herself).
In “The Unconventional Detective” authors Kelley Armstrong, Ian Hamilton, and Nita Prose discuss the detective trope in fiction, how their characters break the mould, and what tricks they employ when crafting page-turners.
Across the village, Martha Bátiz, Chelene Knight and Heather O’Neill will discuss how they brought the compelling female characters in their new books to life in “Her Story”.
Fans of nonfiction won’t want to miss “The Balancing Act of Nonfiction”, in which writers Elamin Abdelmahmoud, Stephen Dorsey, and Harley Rustad share their process with host and multimedia storyteller Bee Quammie.
Readers of romance will be delighted to hear from authors Lily Chu, Carley Fortune, Farah Heron, and host Marissa Stapley, all authors of best-selling titles.
The Globe and Mail Arts Editor Judith Pereira hosts “Where to From Here?” with Robyn Maynard and Kit Dobson, as well as “Portraits of the Past” with Danielle Daniel, Amita Parikh and Shyam Selvadurai, who will discuss their inspiration and the research required to write historical fiction.
Children’s programming includes presentations by illustrator Carmen Mok and writer Deborah Kerbel, storytelling with Brad Woods, music with Mr. J, and much more.
Presenting authors will be available to sign copies of their books following their respective sets, and all books will be offered for sale from the festival’s bookselling partner, The Bookshelf.
