Budding storytellers, wordsmiths and authors can now show off their writing chops in the Halton Hills Public Library’s FanFiction Contest.

According to the library's website, "FanFiction is the art of writing fiction using characters and settings from another existing work of fiction. These works of FanFiction can centre on any kind of media, such as books, television shows, movies, or video games."

Participants can enter up to two works for the contest, with each being no longer than 3,000 words. Writing with explicit content is not allowed.

Winners will be chosen in three categories: grades 4 to 8, grades 9 to 12, and those age 18 and up.

The FanFiction Contest has been held since 2019 as a parallel event to FanFest, a fandom event featuring movies, cosplaying and artists. Winners of the contest will be announced at the cosplay portion of the April 29 event.

Interested writers must submit their work on the library’s website by April 15.
