HDSB appoints new human rights and equity advisor

The Halton District School Board has appointed Pardeep Nagra as human rights & equity advisor.

The Halton District School Board has selected Pardeep Nagra as its new human rights and equity advisor.

He joined the senior administrative team on Aug. 11. In his role, Nagra will advise the board on human rights-related strategic policy issues and provide guidance on equity, inclusion and human rights obligations.

"I am most excited to connect with students, staff, parents/guardians and the community of Halton,” Nagra said. “I encourage you to reach out to me and invite me to your classroom, school, department, community organization or event. I am here to serve you."

Nagra, who has decades of experience in human rights, diversity and inclusion, brings his knowledge and skills in these areas to the educational space. He is also executive director of the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada and serves on the boards f directors for the Canadian Museum of Human Rights.

In his recent position, Nagra worked as manager of employment equity at the Toronto District School Board. He also received Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.

“The board is committed to providing an inclusive environment for all students and staff that models a culture of equity and respect,” said Curtis Ennis, director of education for the Halton District School Board. “We look forward to working with Pardeep to proactively support HDSB students and staff and address human rights issues.”
