The Erin Blitz joined the Western Ontario Super Hockey League in the 2022/2023 season. The team will be moving to Orangeville for the next season.

ERIN – After just one season in the Western Ontario Super Hockey League (WOSHL), the Blitz are moving to a different town.

The Blitz hockey organization announced on social media Monday the team will become the Orangeville Blitz next season. Home ice will be at the Alder Street Recreation Centre.

“On behalf of the entire Blitz organization, we would like to give a huge thanks to the fans, supporters and sponsors in Erin,” a post from the team said. “You made us feel at home in our inaugural season and made it one we will never forget. We hope that you will follow us down the road to Orangeville to help us back the new #Ballroom and cheer on your Blitz.”

The Blitz were one of five new teams to join the WOSHL this year, in the league’s second season making it a nine-team league. Erin made it to the first round of the playoffs before being eliminated.

This season was not without difficulties for the team. Blitz president Tim Wilson previously said the team had the fans and sponsors, but could not get the desired ice time at the Erin Centre 2000 from the Town of Erin and had to practice either at a smaller rink in Hillsburgh or out of town.

“At this point, it’s gonna be a miracle for us to stay really,” Wilson said at the time.

That miracle didn't happen and the organization ended up picking a town a short distance away in Orangeville.

In an email, Wilson said the Town of Orangeville has "bent over backwards for us and has made it very exciting for us to call Orangeville our new home."
