Chris Golden has exactly what you need if you're looking to escape reality for a short while.
He and fellow business partner Alex Hilson are on the cusp of launching Rentavrse, a virtual reality headset rental service.
The concept is simple: pay the rental fee and borrow a set of VR goggles for the day, or as long as you need. Renters will be shown how to set up and operate the devices.
“With virtual reality you're inside the video game, you're moving around, you're working up sweat, you're getting exercise," said Golden. "I think it's significantly better for people and healthier than just playing regular video games."
Currently the business has four headsets and about 35 games to choose from, but Golden hopes to increase those numbers in the near future.
Renters can borrow the equipment for parties, events, team building exercises, solo play and more.
The standalone headsets - meaning no computer is needed - come in a stylish carrying case with all of the necessary components.
For now, the business is offering delivery and pickup in Acton only, but plans are in the works to expand to Georgetown and further afield as well.
With every rental, you can get stamps on a loyalty card that offers the seventh rental at no charge.
“Each additional day you get a headset, we offer a $5 discount,” noted Golden.
To keep customers safe, Rentavrse will clean the headsets with hospital-grade disinfectant and lens cleaner before renting it out again.
Those who'd like to try a demo of the virtual reality equipment can do so at the Leathertown Festival. After the festival, Rentavrse will launch in earnest.
