Owen Bruining scored 1:41 into the second overtime period, giving the Georgetown Raiders a 3-2 win over the Cobourg Cougars Monday.
The Raiders trailed Monday’s Ontario Junior Hockey League game 1-0, but got goals 35 seconds apart from Jayden Levesque and Owen McNamara early in the third period to take their first lead. James Wong drew assists on both goals.
Cobourg responded less than two minutes later to tie the game 2-2.
It remained that way until Bruining’s overtime goal, his first game-winner of the season.
Michael Newlove made 22 saves, including three in overtime, to earn the win.
The Raiders’ second straight win improved their record to 17-13-5. Georgetown sits in eighth place in the OJHL’s West Conference, but just two points separate the four teams from fifth to eighth.
The Raiders are off until the new year when they complete a stretch of six straight road games, including in Pickering (Jan. 5) and Trenton (Jan. 10). Georgetown’s next home game is Wednesday, Jan. 15 against the Milton Menace at 7:30 p.m. at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex.
