Students from the Halton District School Board will soon take part in the 35th annual Special Athletes’ Track Meet, a competition for athletes who face physical and developmental challenges.

The June 15 event will include 100-metre races, basketball, T-ball, soccer, bowling, obstacle courses, bean bag toss and additional sensory stations. Over 400 athletes will join the track meet, which is a significant increase from the first event when only 12 athletes participated in 1987.

The competition will take place at Garth Webb Secondary School in Oakville from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Opening ceremonies kick off at 10 a.m. This year, the Special Athletes’ Track Meet will include in-person and virtual participation.

The Optimist Clubs of Halton Hills, Milton, Oakville and Burlington will donate and serve hot dogs, hamburgers and cold drinks at the event.
