July 7, 1930  -  January 28, 2023

Passed away peacefully with his cherished wife and family by his side on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the age of 92. Son of Cynthia Jone Wright and Peter Bertram Bland brother of Valerie. Beloved husband of Ursula (Plohmann) Bland, loving dad of Randy Bland and Wanda, Tom Bland and Beth, Susan Cameron, Jennifer Vesak and Darryl, Sabrina Frank and Tom, and Melanie Frank and Jean-Sebastien. Grandfather to Cory, Harrison (Stephanie), Jocelyn (Estienne), Katie (Brett), Alex (Danielle), Kasey (Curtis), Camille, Wilson, Wesley, Jack, Jordan, Krista, Rylie, Justin, Chloe and pre-deceased by granddaughter Heather. Great-grandfather to Aryana, Brianna, Lily, Oliver, and Rex. Born in Mimico, Ontario, Dave grew up in Toronto where he lived most of his life before moving to Erin Ontario where he lived the past 32 years.

He was a family man who was proud of his blended and extended family and was always there to support, guide, and listen to all. The matriarch of the family, it was important to him to keep us all together whether it be through our Christmas gatherings or the yearly cottage, these traditions have given us memories to last a lifetime.

He had a lifelong love of sailing. With his wife by his side, they explored the waters of Georgian Bay and the great lakes on their vessel Music and sailed the Florida Keys as well as the Greek Islands. A true Captain at heart. He was an avid reader, loved music, and travel, and was a true advocate for the protection and preservation of the environment and wildlife.

He was a hockey lover who coached his kids and was a diehard fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. A sporty man who also loved tennis, biking, and swimming has taught us all about healthy and conscious living and was always quick to say that age is only a number. Living life to the fullest with a positive mindset and being a true survivor allowed him to overcome prostate cancer in his seventies and live with melanoma but in the end, had bravely succumbed to Kidney cancer.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, World Wildlife Fund, and The Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Family and friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown (905) 877-3631 on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 2:00 pm, with a reception to follow.
