The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has hired a third-party consultant to examine its policing of hate crime in the community.

Dr. Barbara Perry, director of the Centre on Hate, Bias and Extremism, has been brought on to analyze HRPS policy mandates, reporting mechanisms, and annual reports, as well as conduct interviews with service personnel and community members who are most likely to be subjected to or impacted by hate.

To help better understand community perceptions of HRPS management of hate crime, Perry invites Halton residents or those who have interacted with the HRPS with regard to bias-motivated incidents to take part in a confidential survey.

Interested individuals can complete the study from now until Dec. 2 on this website.

For more information or to leave comments regarding the survey, residents can contact Perry through email at [email protected].
