In addition to voting for local members of council in the municipal election, Halton Hills residents also have to select who they want to serve as the chair of Halton Region.

There are three candidates on the ballot for this position:

Andrea Grebenc: She’s currently serving her second term as a Halton District School Board trustee in Burlington. She was also chair of the board for four years.

She wants to work with all levels of government to make housing affordable, fight gridlock by implementing a regional public transit system and look at waste management alternatives, such as creating clean energy from waste.

Jane McKenna: She served two terms as an MPP in Burlington before announcing her intentions to seek the chair position earlier this year.

She wants to ensure responsible growth while protecting the environment, farmland and greenspace, keep taxes low and improve customer service, and build and improve key infrastructure.

Gary Carr: He has held the Halton Regional Chair seat since 2006. Prior to that, he served as an MP for the Halton riding and MPP in Oakville.

He wants to continue working with other members of regional council to enhance the quality of life in the community, grow the regional economy, and preserve Halton’s strong financial position.
