Packaging manufacturer cuts ribbon at new Halton Hills facility

The company has created dozens of local jobs

Signode Canada has made its presence in the municipality official.

The packaging manufacturer held a ribbon cutting ceremony at its new facility yesterday (Nov. 30) on Cleve Court, near the Halton Hills/Milton border.

Mayors Ann Lawlor and Gord Krantz were on hand to welcome the company that specializes in industrial packaging materials, tools and machines for the bulk transportation of goods. Paper products and printing systems are also made at the Halton Hills location that employs between 60 and 70 people.

“The success of our industrial and commercial communities leads to success in our residential communities. Your success is our success,” Lawlor told the gathered crowd.

“You (Signode) really do contribute to the tax base and I thank you very much for that. Not only does it go directly to Halton Hills, but I get to share some of that at the regional level,” Krantz joked.

Signode Group President for the Americas Marcos Bianchi said the location on the border with Milton is the ideal spot for the facility. Proximity to Hwy. 401 and several population centres gives the company easy access to logistics and the local labour pool.

“It gives easy access to our customers as well to some of the products that we bring from the United States,” Bianchi told HaltonHillsToday. “It is a space that will allow us to grow the business.”

The building began operations earlier in the year. Bianchi said the company was working to ensure that everything was in place in the lead up to the ribbon cutting.

The company is more than a century old, getting its start in 1913 in Chicago. At the time it was called the Seal and Fastener Company. The name Signode was adopted three years later.

Since then, the manufacturer has acquired more than 80 facilities on six continents with around 9,000 employees. It's headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
