Melissa Keith is happy to have found a new home for her business in Georgetown.

The wait is almost over.

After experiencing multiple location challenges last year that kept the chip truck doors closed, Louanne’s Famous Fries has secured a spot to set up shop in Georgetown FreshCo's parking lot.

“Finally! I’m so excited,” said Louanne’s owner Melissa Keith.

The local entrepreneur is aiming to open Louanne’s in April at its new Guelph Street location.

In the meantime, Keith is looking to hire some more staff, with the hope of ultimately operating the truck for longer hours, six days a week.

The hot pink eatery will once again be serving up its famous varieties of fries –  classic, poutine or Newfie fries, which are covered in ground beef, onions, gravy and a touch of barbecue sauce, or stuffing made with Newfie savoury.

Classic items like hamburgers, hot dogs, Pogos, chicken fingers, sausages and more will also be available.

Last year was a tough one for Louanne’s, with the business having to leave its home of 30 years at the corner of Trafalgar Road and 10 Sideroad when the property was sold for gas station development.

Keith then relocated the food truck to the Agram Meats and Culinary Boutique parking lot a bit further down Trafalgar. But after operating there for a handful of days, Louanne’s had to close its doors again due to the agricultural zoning on the land.

Following plenty of searching for the perfect new location, Keith struck a deal with FreshCo.

“I’m very glad we found a spot, and we will be there for plenty of years to come,” she said.

The truck started off decades ago as John’s Fries, with the Newfie fries recipe being developed back then after requests from the owner’s Newfoundlander friends.

Keith bought the business from her mother-in-law - the truck’s namesake, Louanne - about nine years ago.

Those interested in applying to work at Louanne’s can call 905-703-1201 or reach out through the company Facebook page, where Keith will also keep the community posted on an exact opening date.
