LETTER: HDSB trustees in unenviable position over staff attire controversy

Trustees have had to become experts on human rights law, labour relations and policy parameters while bomb threats continue in schools, writes Georgetown's Janet Duval

HaltonHillsToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Janet Duval in relation to a previously published article, 'School board meeting provides no details on staff attire policy'

I shudder to think what it’s like being a Halton District School Board trustee right now.

Teachers’ unions, students, parents, trans advocates, and social media attackers including many from far beyond Halton have strong and opposing views.

Trustees have had to become experts on human rights law, labour relations and policy parameters while bomb threats continue in schools, and vicious behaviour from some attending board meetings. Being in the public eye is not often easy or safe right now.

With so much anger and rudeness in public discourse these days,  I thank trustees and politicians at every level who do their best to do what’s good for all of us.
