HaltonHillsToday received the following in response to our story Halton Hills Council votes against contentious power plant expansion.

I applaud the Halton Hills town council for its recent decision to not support an expanded power plant in Halton Hills.

While the lure of $3.5 million was strong in these difficult times, the majority of council decided to prioritize our future over quick cash. Council is also pushing back on a provincial government that seems unconcerned about climate change, or population health.

To Councillor Racinsky, while I appreciate that the 20 to 30 people who still live in Hornby might not mind the plant, it's the unfortunate reality that the emissions do not remain in Hornby. They will affect every resident of your riding and the rest of the Halton Hills community. They will also decrease quality of life for our neighbours in Brampton, Milton and Mississauga. Ultimately, the plant will also contribute to climate change.

To Councillor Keene, you have been clear that you do not accept the science of climate change. Fortunately for the residents of our community, your fellow councillors are willing to act on the Town's commitment to net zero emissions.

One gas power plant does not change the world, but through this action town council has shown a commitment to the health and well-being of our community.
