Dear Editor,

Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAShh) recently held a dinner to honour our drivers.

While we celebrate our volunteers annually, this marked the first time we have been able to get together to thank the drivers in person since the fall of 2019 due to the pandemic.

CAShh now has 55 volunteer drivers that travel all over the GTA, Hamilton and Kitchener.

Two of our drivers were honoured for volunteering with CAShh for over 23 years (since we opened), and they drove for the Canadian Cancer Society before that. We also recognized a driver who has been with us for more than 22 years.

In the past year, the total hours travelled by our drivers would be equivalent to 250 days, or over eight months.

To further put this in perspective, the distance of over 157,000 km that they covered is the same as making 19 round trips from Toronto to Los Angeles.

We really appreciate all of our volunteers, however the volunteer drivers are truly the CAShh angels. They are the ones on the front lines making sure our clients get to and from their cancer treatments safely. They are some of the most kind and compassionate people we have ever met.

We would like to thank Chef Brady Davies and his team, Carl's catering, Vanderburgh flowers and Norval United Church for helping us make the evening memorable.

Julie Liddle
