Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) has received the title of one of Canada’s Greenest Employers (2024) for the fifth consecutive year.
CVC earned recognition for its many green initiatives, such as committing to the transition of its vehicle fleet to be fully electric by 2035, implementing an employee uniform recycling program, organic composting and offering an employee carpool sign-up.
CVC is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and investing in low-impact development approaches for sustainable stormwater management on its properties. CVC’s head office includes a LEED gold-certified building, electric vehicle charging stations, an electric lawnmower, solar lighting in the parking lot and LED motion-controlled lighting in the office, and a permeable parking lot that allows rainwater to filter naturally into the ground.
CVC is preparing to launch Canada’s first CSA-compliant smart blue roof. Smart blue roofs are an effective solution for stormwater management. The smart blue roof technology will safely store 40,000 litres of rainwater on top of the head office roof, will provide non-potable water for applications such as toilet flushing and cooling benefits during warmer weather and will slowly release the rainwater back into the municipal stormwater system.

CVC continues to build community partnerships, with many green initiatives, encouraging community members to incorporate environmental considerations into their day-to-day lives. The Branch Out program has seen success in working with local teachers to plan field trips that engage students in hands-on stewardship activities. Student volunteers can take part in a fun, five-day stewardship project through the Conservation Youth Corps program during the summer. Working with local schools, their teachers and students, the Students for Stormwater program aims to design and build unique rain gardens that absorb and filter rainwater on school grounds.
