If you’re looking to clear out your closets or perhaps find your favourite movie on DVD, you might want to mark Saturday, May 4 on your calendar.
That’s the day of the Georgetown Garage Sale Extravaganza, running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The initiative, being organized by local realtors Shelli Harrison and Shelly Williamson, is bringing together garage sales across the town to create a community event. Maps will be available online prior to the day so local bargain hunters can visit the participating sales. There will also be signage around town.
“As realtors, we’re always meeting people who have to declutter when they’re moving. We all have things, myself included, that we don’t use anymore,” Harrison said. “Rather than throwing it in the garbage, it’s a chance for someone else who could use it to buy it.”
So far there are 10 sales registered, with some spots still available for anyone else wishing to have their sale as part of the event. Those interested can sign up on the event’s Facebook page.
“People sell things on Facebook, but we thought this would be a chance to organize a day and make it a community event,” Harrison said.
