FRIDAY

Drop-in Family Story Time

April 26 at 10 a.m. at the Gellert Centre, Georgetown: Join the Halton Hills Public Library staff in exploring new themes each week through stories, rhymes, and songs. No registration is required.

Scrabble Tournament

April 26 at 6 p.m. at the Halton Hills Public Library, Georgetown branch: Literacy North Halton is hosting its annual WordPlay fundraiser. Players can register online for $20 and there will be prizes. Participants can also download a pledge form to help the fundraising efforts. There will be a cash bar and snacks available. Proceeds from the event will go toward Adult Learning Centre Halton programs.

Line Dancing

April 26 starting at 7 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Acton branch: Learn how to line dance with the Urban Cowboy at the local Legion from 7 to 9 p.m., followed by open line dancing from 9 p.m. to midnight. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the first 150 people will get a free gift. Tickets cost $15 and are available at the door (cash only).

SATURDAY

Compost and Woodchip Giveaway

April 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre, 11620 Trafalgar Rd.: Receive free compost and woodchips with a food bank donation. Bring a shovel and a container to carry your compost or woodchips.

Community Breakfast

April 27 from 8 to 10 a.m. at St. Alban's Church Hall, Glen Williams: Enjoy a delicious breakfast and beverages for $8 while mingling with friends, family and neighbours. 

Norval Community Clean up

April 27 starting at 8 a.m. at McNab Park: The Norval community is coming together for a spring clean up. Garbage bags and gloves are being supplied by the Town of Halton Hills. Areas that will be focused on include McNab Park, Norval Park, Hwy. 7, Cemetery Hill and Adamson Street north from the dam. Coffee and drinks will be available. Rain date: Sunday, Apr. 28.

Used Bike Swap

April 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre, 11620 Trafalgar Rd.: This event helps recycle bikes by getting them to people who can use them. Bikes are sold as-is. Kids bikes are $10, youth bikes $20 and adult and premium bikes are priced individually. Anyone wishing to donate a bike, tricycle or cycling equipment can drop it off at the operations centre parking lot from April 24 to 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. or the day of the event from 8 to 11 a.m.

Glen Williams Community Clean up

April 27 starting at 10 a.m. at the Glen Park ball diamond shelter: The Glen Williams Community Association is hosting a clean up in the hamlet. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Glen Park ball diamond shelter for refreshments and treats before heading out to a designated clean up area. Garbage bags and gloves will be provided. All participants will be entered into a draw to win Earth Day-themed prizes.

FanFest

April 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Halton Hills Public Library, Georgetown branch: Don your costume and let your imagination fly like Superman as FanFest is returning this weekend. There will be virtual reality, trivia, crafts, cosplaying and more. Local costumed characters from a book, show, movie or video game can strut their stuff in the cosplay contest as well.

Fill a Fire Truck

April 27 from noon to 4 p.m. at Acton Sobeys: The Acton Firefighters Association will be at Sobeys on Saturday accepting non-perishable food donations.

The Fill a Fire Truck food drive will support the Roxy Pantry and the Food for Life program, which work together to serve local residents out of the Roxy Centre in downtown Acton.

Vinyl Record Party

April 27 from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Acton Town Hall Centre: Take a step back in time at Heritage Acton's first vinyl record party. You are invited to bring your own records or enjoy songs from DJ Kevin’s large selection of pop, rock, folk and adult contemporary albums. The event is a fundraiser for Heritage Acton.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at Acton Optical, 80 Mill St. E. (cash only). There will be a cash bar (wine/beer/pop), pizza for sale later in the evening and free popcorn.

SUNDAY

Free Recreational Swim

April 28 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Acton Lions Indoor Pool, 69 Acton Blvd.: The churches of Acton are sponsoring a free recreational swim on Sunday afternoon.
