Registration for the fifth annual Ride or Stride for Claudio is now open.

Organizers want to keep last year’s momentum going and are aiming to raise $25,000 in 2023, up from their previous goal of $20,000.

“If we can achieve that, then we would be elated,” organizer Sonya Rotondi told HaltonHillsToday

Rotondi and her family started the event in 2019 to raise money for cancer research after her brother, Claudio Franzini, died of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. To date, the charity event has raised around $52,000.

“We’re doing everything out of Acton. Our home base is going to be out of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197,” said Rotondi.

This fall, participants can ride their motorcycles on an 80-km route, or walk (stride) for five km.

The family-friendly event is set for Sept. 10 and everyone is welcome. For the $60 registration fee, walkers or riders will get breakfast, lunch, a free T-shirt and tickets for a draw. Children under 10 years of age get in for free.

Plans are also afoot to create more of a carnival atmosphere.

Those interested in taking part can register on the event’s website at forclaudio.ca.
