Barbara Metelka of Acton is the latest local lottery winner.

Barbara Metelka couldn’t quite believe her eyes when she received an email recently from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, saying she’s now $1 million richer.

“I had trouble believing it was real,” she said. “I don’t know how to put it into words. I’m very relieved, but it still hasn’t fully set in.”

The Acton resident logged into her OLG.ca account to verify the news and discovered she had in fact won on the May 24 Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Draw.

The 71-year-old said her family was also “skeptical at first, but they were so happy for me.”

“I spare a few dollars on tickets each week,” she added. “I always hoped to win big.”

The local woman hasn’t made any major plans with her win just yet, but is considering taking a vacation.
