The Town is looking for public input on a proposed Georgetown condo development, rural quarry expansion and Glen Williams road upgrades.

Here's everything you need to know.

1 Rosetta Street condominiums

Plans have been put forth for three condominium buildings near the Georgetown GO station.

The proposal from developer 1 Rosetta Street Inc. includes one eight-storey building and two 12-storey ones with a total of 640 units on land occupied by the former paper coating mill. The complex directly north of Georgetown GO would need to be demolished to make way for the condos, if eventually approved.

The Town is currently considering options for a number of development aspects, including pedestrian access to the Georgetown GO station, protecting residents from train noise and more.

A public meeting on the topic will be held by Halton Hills Council on Monday (Feb. 13) starting at 6 p.m.

Milton Quarry east extension

The Milton Quarry expansion is, to put it lightly, a complex file. As its name suggests, the lion's share of the quarry is located in Milton. But a small section extends across the border into Halton Hills.

Dufferin Aggregates, which owns the quarry, is hoping to expand further east into Halton Hills, adding about 60 hectares of land. This multi-jurisdiction development is in the hands of Halton Region.

Dufferin has told the Town that this expansion will be their last at the site. The owners have either finished extracting materials or natural features in the area are limiting their ability to do further excavation.

“Dufferin suggests that extraction of the proposed quarry expansion would be completed over a period of approximately three to seven years, depending on the rate of extraction,” states a Town staff report.

After this, Town staff says rehabilitation of the site will begin.

A public meeting on this matter will also be held by council on Monday at 6 p.m. The quarry expansion is first on the agenda, followed by the condo development.

The public meetings can be accessed on Zoom (Webinar ID is 852 7474 6951), or by calling (647) 374 4685.

Glen Williams road improvements

Consultations about the planned Glen Williams road upgrades are currently ongoing and the public can leave questions or comments on Letstalkhaltonhills.ca.

Among the goals of the work, also known as the Main Street improvements, is to renew and upgrade two bridges and the extensive road network in the hamlet. The bridge closest to the Main Street Market, dubbed bridge one, “has structural deficiencies,” according to the Town.

Bridge two, located just south of St. Alban the Martyr Anglican Church, is the main focus of the current consultation. The bridge is 73 years old, and while it underwent rehabilitation in 1993, it's starting to show its age.

"The lifespan of a typical bridge is in excess of 50 years with appropriate maintenance," said Senior Project Engineer Steven Ziegler. "Another major rehabilitation of bridge two should not be necessary for approximately 30 years, though minor rehabilitation and routine maintenance will still be required."
