Your Georgetown Raiders finished the weekend with two big wins. Here’s what you need to know.
Friday, Feb. 2, the Raiders hit the road for Niagara and the Gale Centre where they took on the Niagara Falls Canucks for the fourth meeting of the season for the clubs.
The first period ended with a 2-1 score courtesy of goals from Owen McNamara and Kaleb Nelson. The Raiders looked confident out of the gate during the game, and this continued for the entire contest. Two more goals were added during the second period from Jack Gallo, (his first career OJHL goal), and Kristian Lamanna. The third period had goals from Quinn Tavares and Gabriel Ciarallo to add to the total. Niagara would score one in the dying minutes of the game, but Georgetown would take home a commanding 6-2 win from Friday night.
Georgetown looked dominant during this game. It was a big opportunity for Georgetown to get back on the horse and curb a small losing streak – and they did just that. Sixty minutes of fantastic hockey with flew blemishes took place. Georgetown directed 55(!) shots on Niagara’s net. Goaltender Aiden Berry was superb for the Raiders, stopping 23 of 25 shots on net en route to the win. All in all, this was a commanding and impressive statement win for your Raiders. From start to finish, this looked like a team that wanted to be all gas, and no brakes. Two important points were secured.
Saturday, Feb. 3, the Raiders returned home to take on the Mississauga Chargers in an afternoon matinee affair. Heading into the game, the Raiders lead the season series at 3-0-0-0.
This was a true tell of the skills of the Raiders squad. The previous night, a 6-2 offensive performance leading to a win. Saturday evening – a 2-0, closely-contested win. Georgetown goals were scored by Quinn Tavares and Kristian Lamanna. Georgetown held the pace in the contest for the majority, with both goaltenders playing stellar hockey. Georgetown managed to grab and capitalize on two key mistakes by the Chargers, and this proved to be the different in the contest. Raiders netminder Finn Marshall was fantastic, stopping all 33 Mississauga shots on net en route to the shutout victory.
In order to be a championship club, it’s important to be able to win in different ways. Georgetown proved capable of such a feat. Although Mississauga is last in the Western Conference, Georgetown did not take them lightly and held a couple great Chargers attacks at bay. Another big momentum win for a Raiders club that needs just that as we move into the last month of regular season OJHL action. A fantastic effort and another two big points secured.
After this weekend’s action, your Raiders have moved into sole possession of fifth place in the West Conference with 51 points. Georgetown is now sitting only four points back of Buffalo for fourth spot and home ice advantage come playoff time.
Georgetown has two more games on slate this week. Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m., the Battle of North Halton writes another chapter as we welcome the Milton Menace to Alcott Arena. Doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets are $15 at the door.
