March 20, 1923 – August 7, 2022
Mildred Stella Ross born March 20, 1923 passed away Sunday August 7, 2022 in her 100th year.
Growing up in a tight farming community in Minto Township, she had a rich life including church functions, skating on the pond, dances at Pike Lake and much more. She saw the telephone and electricity arrive as well as the Depression and WWII. Trained as a secretary, she was posted during the War years at the Beardmore Tannery in Acton where she met and later married, Martin Hassard.
A teacher, Martin's first school was in Strathroy, Ontario where they welcomed Mark (1955). They moved to Oakville in 1960 where Murray was born. Mildred and Martin enjoyed extensive travel, good friends and were very involved in the church. Sadly Mildred lost Martin July 1982. She carried on with the support of her family, friends and church activities. Although she travelled a great deal with her sister, Velma, French Bay on Lake Huron would remain closest to her heart. She is survived by her sister, Velma Fell.
Mildred leaves behind her sons and families: Mark and Jan, Murray and Carolyn and grandchildren: Ian, Helen, Michael, Chantal and Megan and also great-grandchild, Evelyn Ross Hassard-Rehill.
Visitation will be held at the Mackinnon Family Funeral Home, 55 Mill St. E., Acton, on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 12- 1 p.m. A memorial service will follow in chapel at 1 p.m. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery.
In memory of Mildred, please make any donations to a charity of your choosing or the Heart and Stroke Association.
