20 JUNE, 1930 – 5 JANUARY, 2024

Born in Acton on June 30, 1930, died in Georgetown on January 5, 2024

Doris was predeceased by her husband, Kyle as well as siblings, Lyle, Mary (Lemon), Wilhelmina (Mina), Ivy (Winter), Leonard, and Ruth (Morrow). Doris was a long time Acton resident and worked in the office at the Beardmore Tannery for 29 years. She married Kyle Bingham in May 1991 and subsequently moved to Georgetown.Doris’ long and full life was defined by the pillars of Faith, Family, and Friends:

FAITH

Doris was raised in a faith based family and community and her inner strength was a reflection of this. She faced many challenges in life, including health issues, personal losses, and a move to long term care. Doris calmly and without complaint accepted these issues, largely because of her strong belief. Her life-long faith commitment contributed to the person she was- gracious, gentle, resilient, and compassionate. Doris was also strongly independent and confident, as those who shared her faith would know.

FAMILY

As a member of a family of seven children, along with parents Darwin and Ellen, family connections were of upmost importance to Doris. Family reunions (McDougall) were common in the past but as time marched on, these declined. However, even in her final months, Doris would broach the idea of a “family” gathering… as long as she didn’t have to cook.

Doris was fortunate to not only have her Acton based family, her strong family relationships stretched to Saskatchewan where her younger sister Ruth resided. Many wonderful visits resulted, again with strong family ties to nieces and nephews, as well as children, and grandchildren. Now Doris is reunited with her baby sister, Ruth.

In addition, when Doris and Kyle were married in 1991, her family grew again, as Doris was warmly welcomed into their lives. Whether related by blood or marriage, she was truly loved by her extended family.

FRIENDS

Since Doris enjoyed the “simple’ things in life including nature, animals, and children, her positive approach resulted in the formation of many friendships. Doris further enjoyed travelling (trips to BC and Hawaii), eating (Angel’s Diner was a favorite), and of course shopping! Over the years, there were so many encounters, including those that blossomed into full friendships and those whose lives she touched only once. Doris made friends wherever she went because she was thoughtful, generous, and always put others’ feelings first. She will be lovingly remembered by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. In the last few years of Doris’ life, special mention should be made of the valued friendships of Val and Kirk and family, as well as Mary and Aubrey.
