12 OCTOBER, 1929 – 14 APRIL, 2024

Edith [Ytje] Kamminga [nee Barkmeijer] travelled to her heavenly home on Sunday, April 14, 2024, after a short illness and a long and blessed life of 94 years, devoted to God and her family. She was born on October 12, 1929 in Stroobos, FR, the Netherlands, oldest of 12 children. On January 22, 1953, she married her beloved husband, Jan, and two months later, they immigrated to Canada, along with her brother- in-law and sister-in-law, and niece. They sailed on the ship ‘Groote Beer’, and started their new adventure with $50.00 in their pockets. They lived in Milton for a while and then moved to Acton, where they remained. They were among the founding members of Beth-El Christian Reformed Church.

They were together until January of 2016, when Dad passed away at the age of 88. They were blessed with a devoted family:

Webb & Sandra Kamminga –their children and grandchildren John & Irma; Jen & Ian - Noah, Levi; Emily & Bryan - Liam, Anika.

Gerald & Freda Kamminga – their children and grandchildren Gerrit & Gracie - Poppy, Max ; Daniel & Emma - Nico; Sam & Ruth

Betty & Jack Slothouber – their children and grandchildren Norm & Sonia - Hendrix; Steve & Britt - Nixon, Beau; Tom & Holly - Violet; & Collin.

Ken & Evelyn Kamminga

She is survived by her sister Bonje, her brother Popko, and her sisters-in-law Janny, Jelly and Katrien.

She loved having people over for coffee and was a gracious hostess, always using her fine china cups and saucers. She had an amazing talent for fine needlework and crocheting beautiful doilies, tablecloths and bedspreads. She was happy to bless many with her handiwork treasures. Over the years, she was involved in many church and local activities, her favorite being as a volunteer for 11 years at Tinkerbell Nursery for children with Down-syndrome. Her youngest sister Detty had this condition and they were very close.

For her final year, she lived at Riverside Glen Retirement Home in Guelph, where she thrived as well as she could. Throughout her life, she was blessed with many friends and many wonderful life adventures. She knew that she was blessed and was very grateful for it. We will miss her.

Friends will be received at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 365 Queen Street, Acton on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 5 – 8 p.m. A Private family burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Acton. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 365 Queen Street, Acton.
