Norm Long, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on March 17, 2024, at the age of 95. Born on September 22, 1928, and living most of his life in Georgetown (with a short period on a farm in Limehouse), Norm lived a rich and fulfilling life. Norm was the youngest of three boys, brothers George and Bill. He received his education at Chapel Street School and Georgetown High School, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for his future endeavors.

On July 29, 1950, Norm married the love of his life, Doreen Jolley (died April 15, 2015). Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Their union blessed them with three sons: Dave (Michelle), Ian (Sandy), and Andy (Carol). Dave and Ian reside in Victoria, BC, while Andy lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Despite the geographical distances, their bond remained unbreakable.

Norm was immensely proud of his grandchildren: Erica, Lesley, Charlotte, Christine, Claire, and Teresa, and delighted in the joy they brought into his life. His legacy continued to flourish with his great-grandchildren: Carson, Bailey, Keira, Jacob, and Briana, who brought him immense happiness and pride.

With many great local friends, Norm never felt alone. He was welcomed into Brenda and Roger Chapman's family for holidays and many memorable weekend visits to their Elora home.

Professionally, after a few years at Smith & Stone, Norm dedicated over three decades of his life to Varian, where his valued contributions earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

An active member of his community, Norm was a proud member of the Georgetown Citizen Band, showcasing his musical talents with multiple brass instruments. He found immense joy in coaching baseball alongside his dear friend Gord Inglis, fostering the growth and development of young athletes.

One of Norm's greatest passions was hockey, and he shared this love with his family and community. With the support of his loved ones, he organized and ran the TYKE hockey program, eventually taking on the Novice Rep Team alongside Bob Webster. His dedication to the sport inspired countless young players and left an indelible mark on the Georgetown hockey community.

Beyond his professional and athletic pursuits, Norm found joy and fulfillment in his hobbies. He had a green thumb and spent countless hours tending to his garden and woodworking. He also cherished moments spent canoeing, immersing himself in the beauty of nature.

Norm's adventurous spirit led him and Doreen on countless travels, exploring new destinations and experiencing the world together.

A celebration of Norm's life will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11 a.m.
