December 17, 1942 - April 12, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that we share the peaceful passing of our dear Dad in the ICU of Brampton Civic Hospital.

Alistair was the only child of Teresa and Eben Macewan of Glasgow, Scotland. A train enthusiast and soccer lover, he grew up in Glasgow but spent time in Wigan with his cherished extended family. Alistair was an accomplished soccer official, quite often as a referee or linesman for high level matches in Europe in front of large crowds in large stadiums.

After joining the family business at the Brass Foundry, he worked in that industry for 23 years, latterly in MT Paterson and Sons. He loved to travel and met his Canadian wife Christine (nee Jackson) on a cruise in Greece. They married in 1972, moved to Glasgow, and welcomed daughters Heather (1974) and Alison (1977).

They emigrated to Dundas, Canada in 1977 where Alistair worked for multiple companies, including Slater Products and West Bend. They moved to Georgetown in 1982 and Alistair started a new career path with IAPA (Industrial Accident Prevention Association) until his retirement in 2005.

During their time in Georgetown, both Alistair and Christine were devoted community members. Alistair was known for his kindness and willingness to help others; getting involved in Holy Cross Parish, Halton Helps, and is a past president and past secretary of the Rotary Club. He had the ability to see the good in everyone, and always took the time for a chat. He was a true gentleman in every way.

Alistair is predeceased by Christine (2020) and survived by Heather and Ken Derbecker (Ruby, Norah and Ewan) and Alison and Peter Cuthbert (Miles and Theo). He is also survived by his adoring sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law (Bev and Bob, Mary Elaine and Cliff). He also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews, as well as godchildren.

Alistair and Chris were blessed with a large circle of friends and communities through their interests and service. Alistair enjoyed golf, trivia, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by many.

We are grateful for all of the medical advances and medical teams that enabled Alistair to live a productive and independent life right up to the end.

As they would say in Scotland, he was a good lad.

Friends will be received at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown on Tuesday April 16th from 6:00 -8:00 pm.  A family graveside service and burial will be held out of town on April 17. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.  In memory, contributions to The Rotary Foundation or Holy Cross Helps would be appreciated.
