Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred just outside Acton involving a cyclist from Georgetown.

Local firefighters, EMS and police responded to the call on Hwy. 7 near Fourth Line shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday (March 3).

Preliminary reports from the scene indicated a male cyclist was struck by a vehicle and CPR was performed by emergency services personnel. The cyclist was transported to hospital.

A press release issued Monday morning by the Ontario Provincial Police says the cyclist and an SUV were both travelling eastbound.

"The cyclist, a 60-year-old from Georgetown, was pronounced deceased at hospital. The driver of a car, a 60-year-old from Acton, and two passengers in the vehicle were not injured."

The OPP Highway Safety Division's Traffic Support Unit is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
