Elderly pedestrian dies after being struck in Georgetown (update)

Halton Regional Police say an elderly pedestrian has died in a collision in Georgetown.

The incident occurred on Mountainview Road South near the Georgetown Market Place at around 7:20 a.m. this morning (Dec. 23).

Preliminary reports from the scene indicate a pedestrian was struck and pinned by a vehicle, requiring extrication by emergency services.

The 90-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police had closed Mountainview Road South between Guelph Street and Sargent Road to facilitate their investigation, but the road has since reopened.

"Several witnesses remained at the collision scene; however, police would like to speak with anyone else who witnessed the collision (and did not remain on the scene) or may have dashcam video in the area at the time of the collision," police said in a news release.
