Search warrants in Halton Hills and Mississauga turn up drugs, gun and cash

Halton Police have laid a lengthy list of charges against two people

Police seized cash, a weapon and drugs as part of Project Wander.

Two people are facing a slew of charges following the conclusion of Halton Regional Police's Project Wander, which focused on the distribution of cocaine and fentanyl in Halton Region and surrounding areas.  

Late last week, search warrants were executed at a residence in Halton Hills and a condo and self-storage unit in Mississauga, where police say they seized: 

  • A loaded Glock 27 prohibited compact handgun
  • Bundled Canadian currency in excess of $20,000
  • Money counters, cutting agents and digital scales
  • 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine
  • Just under 1 kilogram of purple fentanyl
  • Just under 1 kilogram of cocaine
  • 60 Oxycodone pills.

Gurkamal Khakh, 25, of Mississauga has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, oxycodone) - four counts
  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm (storage)
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Breach of firearms prohibition order.

Tavleen Towana, 24, of British Columbia has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (oxycodone)
  • Possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm (storage)
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.

Both were held pending a bail hearing.

At the time of his arrest, Khakh was under a firearm prohibition order with conditions not to possess any firearms.
