Halton Regional Police have laid nearly a dozen charges after a search for a suspect involved in hit-and run-collisions in Milton and Oakville.

On April 17, at approximately 12:15 p.m., police allege the accused was driving a stolen red Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed and proceeded through a red light at the intersection of Louis St. Laurent Avenue and Farmstead Drive in Milton.

"The stolen Jeep struck another vehicle that contained a four-year-old child," police said in a press release. "Fortunately, the child was not seriously injured, however the driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."

Police say the suspect - wearing a black balaclava - fled the scene in the Jeep, which was reported stolen out of Kitchener.

Shortly after the collision, the vehicle was spotted by officers driving southbound on Regional Road 25. According to police, the suspect did not stop for police and continued at a high rate of speed toward Oakville.

Just before 1 p.m. on the same date, police say the Jeep was involved in a second collision near the Ford assembly plant in Oakville. Nobody was seriously hurt in the crash.

"The suspect then fled the scene of the second collision on foot and (allegedly) attempted to rob an employee in the parking lot of the Ford plant of their vehicle keys," police said in the release. "This attempt to steal their vehicle keys was unsuccessful and the suspect fled into some brush located north of the plant."

Police were called to the area and conducted a search, which included the use of K9 officers. Police say the suspect was located and arrested hiding in the bushes at approximately 1:40 p.m.
