Halton Regional Police have laid charges in relation to a carjacking in Burlington.

On March 13 at approximately 7:10 a.m., police responded to the area of Burloak Drive and Sutton Drive in Burlington for a report that a Ford Explorer had been stolen from a residence driveway.

"The Ford Explorer was followed by a Ford F150. HRPS officers observed both vehicles in the area of Appleby Line, where officers initiated a brief pursuit, which was discontinued for reasons of public safety," police said in a press release.

Then around 7:15 a.m., officers received a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Guelph Line and Upper Middle Road in Burlington, involving a Ford F150 and Ford Explorer.

Police say five occupants associated with both vehicles attempted to flee the area, but three were arrested at the scene by HRPS officers.

Prior to police arrival, it's alleged that a fourth suspect brandished a knife and punched the driver of a silver Volkswagen Jetta, who was stopped near the scene of the crash. Police say the suspects stole the vehicle and fled the area.

The Jetta driver suffered minor physical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for assessment.

According to police, both vehicles involved in the accident were confirmed as stolen. Police are continuing to search for the silver Volkswagen Jetta and two outstanding suspects.
