Halton Regional Police are investigating a distraction-style theft in Georgetown that saw a woman’s wallet stolen and cards later used to steal cash.

Police say on March 14 around 12:15 p.m., a female suspect approached the woman in the Metro grocery store parking lot on Mountainview Road South and said there’s a tack stuck in her rear tire.

“It is suspected that while the victim exited their vehicle to confirm the tack in their tire, their wallet was stolen from inside the car,” police said.

Cards in the woman’s wallet were later used to steal approximately $3,000, according to police.

No arrests have been made yet and the investigation is ongoing.

A suspect description isn’t currently available.
