“Art at the Pumphouse” is an immersive experience for art enthusiasts in Niagara-on-the-Lake

It’s a one-of-a-kind show that offers an interesting story in every piece of art

The 16th annual Art at the Pumphouse, juried art show and sale is an opportunity to view the works of professional artists and artisans showcasing their original creations.

Aimee Medina, Marketing and Communications Manager for the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre says, “The Art at the Pumphouse show has grown over the years. Artists are looking for venues to showcase their works and the number of creators who have submitted applications for this year has been phenomenal and the quality of work is superb.”

The in-person Art at the Pumphouse show is on August 5th and 6th, during the Civic Holiday weekend. But there is an online show that begins on July 17th and runs through August 13th. The online gallery allows art collectors and buyers to connect with artists and artisans before the in-person gallery. Media says, “It’s a sneak peek for art lovers to see what will be displayed in person and much more.

Art creators who can’t join in person have an opportunity for their pieces to be featured online and available to art collectors and supporters of the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre. Artists’ websites, social media pages, and emails will be displayed for interested buyers to contact them.

Meet the creators in person

The Civic Holiday weekend in-person show is a one-of-a-kind gallery experience held on the grounds and inside the historic building at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre in Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake. With the lower Niagara River as a backdrop, visitors can stroll through the indoor and outdoor galleries, while a glass of Niagara wine as they have a conversation with the artists and artisans. Medina says, “This is an opportunity for art collectors to own one-of-a-kind pieces. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the creators and makers of the pieces.”

It's a wonderful opportunity to support local artists and become immersed in an artistic experience with numerous original artworks on display. Medina says, “Visitors can view the art through the eyes of the artist or the lens of the photographer. When speaking to them they learn what inspired the artists to create the piece or why they are using a certain medium.” Visitors can learn about the artists’ background and what subjects they choose to focus on, and why. Medina adds. “When you see a piece, there is a creative story behind it and meeting the creator is something significant.”

An event for the entire family

From the casual art appreciator to the aficionado, there is something for everyone at the event. Visitors are invited to bring their children to the Art at the Pumphouse show. Medina says, “This is a great opportunity to inspire children and awaken their creativity because there are many different art forms on display at the show.” More than 60 creators from across the Golden Horseshoe will be showcasing their works at the in-person show. Southern Ontario has a very vibrant art community.

Visitors to the Art at the Pumphouse show can make a day of it. Enjoy a delicious lunch sold by Pig Out Catering. Relax at a picnic table overlooking the Niagara River while enjoying entertainment from a stage in the rose garden and sipping wine by Chateau des Charmes winery. Beer and cider will also be available. It’s a great opportunity for people to immerse themselves in an artistic experience.

The in-person show is at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre, 247 Ricardo Street.
