Working mothers who are trying to balance their careers and their families know all too well the stresses and strains that come with trying to keep all the plates spinning at the same time. Striking the right work-life balance is crucial to their well-being, but it’s not always easy.

In today's fast-paced world, it's more important than ever for women to take proper care of themselves so they can continue to meet the demands of their different roles. Anita Bergsma, life coach, shares tips and advice for self-care.

“You cannot take care of others if you don't take care of yourself first,” says Bergsma. “Unfortunately, self-care is often the first thing that busy mothers neglect. By adding some time, even if it’s just minutes a day, to celebrate and honour yourself, you’ll feel more balanced, less stressed, and more productive.”

Here are a few self-care tips that you can integrate into your daily routine:

  • Take breaks throughout your workday to avoid burnout. Even if it's just a 15-minute walk, a change of scenery, or a simple stretch, it will help you return to work feeling refreshed.

  • Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily schedule to help manage stress levels. This could include deep breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga.

  • It's critical to get enough rest to maintain your health and well-being. Try to maintain a regular sleep schedule and create a sleep-promoting environment.

  • Joining support networks is an excellent way to connect with other working mothers, share experiences and advice, and create a sense of community. Support networks also provide a platform for mothers to vent and express their feelings without fear of being judged.

  • Time management is a crucial component when balancing work and family. Consistent scheduling can increase efficiency, reduce stress, and create a healthier work-life balance.

  • You can use technology to track your scheduled appointments, assignments, and deadlines using apps like Google Calendar, Asana, or Trello.

Working mothers may have difficulty managing their work-life balance, which can result in burnout, stress, and anxiety.

A life coach can introduce them to a new perspective, offer guidance and advice on different ways to manage their lives, and support them in developing new strategies to achieve their goals.

Here are some ways that life coaching can help:

  • Life coaches help working mothers identify what they want in their professional and personal lives and how to achieve it.

  • Life coaching helps working mothers build confidence and self-esteem, which can translate into better job performance and less stress.

  • Life coaching helps working mothers stay accountable and motivated to continue making progress towards their goals.

Bergsma concludes, “Remember, no two women are the same, nor are their lives. Life coaching uses a tailored approach and achieve your best personal outcome. When you focus on the balance between work and life, you can move closer to creating a happier, more fulfilling life personally and professionally.”
