It’s that time of year when you can shop for fresh local produce and more while enjoying that downtown core ambiance.
The Acton and Georgetown farmers’ markets are underway for the season, with both reporting strong community support during their opening week.
“People were thrilled for the opportunity to get outside and shop local,” said Downtown Georgetown BIA manager Nikki Jackson.
The Georgetown market, which runs Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the downtown core, has a mix of vendors that offer farm produce, culturally diverse food and products, hand-crafted jewelry, soaps, candles and more, said Jackson.
Meanwhile, the Acton farmers’ market has a similar lineup of vendors on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. outside Acton Town Hall Centre. There are some new additions this year, like Acton’s Hop Society Brewing Company, an organic produce vendor and new artisans, said Acton BIA co-ordinator Alex Hilson.
Throughout the cooler months, the Acton BIA organized a variety of holiday indoor markets at the Acton Town Hall Centre.
“We found the momentum with doing indoor markets has really helped keep the community support strong (for the farmers’ market),” noted Hilson.
Jackson said the Downtown Georgetown BIA is working to create new themed market days and fun family activities. The first event of the season is coming up on June 18 with the reintroduction of Bike It to the Market, which operates in partnership with the Town.
