Brent Hierons and Joanne Fenech raised money for Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills with their 'Mayhem on Murdock' Halloween display.

A Georgetown family has paired its passion for Halloween with helping others.

Joanne Fenech and husband Brent Hierons continued their tradition this year of decking out their property on Murdock Street with a spooky display that doubles as a fundraiser for charity.

In the past, they’ve supported Kids Help Phone before switching their cause to Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAShh), in honour of friend and neighbour Lisa Whelan, who lost her battle with cancer in August 2022.

“Having seen the amazing job CAShh did with supporting her (Whelan) and her family, we felt it was only right to start supporting them. They truly improved her quality of life and made things easier for everyone,” said Fenech.

“With last year’s display we were able to collect $600 in donations, and we thought we could do better than that by improving the display every year. This year, we made just over $1,050 and hope to get even more in 2024. We've already begun planning.”
