Musical bingo, garage sales galore, a bake sale and a night of dinner and dancing are among the events happening in Halton Hills and the surrounding area this weekend

THURSDAY

Open Mic Night/Jam Session

May 2 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Acton branch: This popular event returns to the Acton Legion tonight. Everyone is welcome to come out and jam or simply listen and enjoy. No fees or membership required.

FRIDAY

Drop-in Family Story Time

May 3 at 10 a.m. at the Gellert Centre, Georgetown: Join the Halton Hills Public Library staff in exploring new themes each week through stories, rhymes, and songs. No registration is required.

Night on the Town Dinner and Dance

May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Acton Town Hall Centre: The Rotary Club of Acton has an evening of dinner and dancing planned for multiple good causes. Dinner will be prepared by Chef Dale McCarthy of Everton Academy of Culinary Arts.

Half of all proceeds will go to the club and its various local causes, while the rest will go to the Townsend Smith Foundation’s campaign to bring a hospice to north Halton.

Tickets are $65 and can be purchased online or in person at Acton Optical.

Music Bingo

May 3 at 7 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Acton branch: Come enjoy a night of Music Bingo. The game is simple: they play tunes, if they're on your bingo sheet, you mark them off. It’s free to play and there are prizes to be won.

SATURDAY

Georgetown Garage Sale Extravaganza

May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout Georgetown: Get ready for some local bargain shopping. The Georgetown Garage Sale Extravaganza, organized by local realtors Shelli Harrison and Shelly Williamson, is bringing together sales across the town to create a community event. A map is now available online, and there will also be signage around town.

Bake Sale

May 4 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Centre Stage School of the Arts, downtown Georgetown: Enjoy some tasty treats while supporting a good cause. Proceeds will benefit the I Have Resolve Foundation.

Hike for Hospice

May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting at Wallace Park in Acton and Norval United Church in Georgetown: The Townsend-Smith Foundation invites residents to come out for a walk to help its fundraising efforts to build an adult hospice in north Halton.

Preserving Family Photographs

May 4 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Halton Hills Public Library, Georgetown branch: Do you have albums or boxes full of old family photographs that you don't know what to do with?

Professional Conservator Kyla Ubbink will discuss how to preserve and care for family photographs. Storage, labelling and more will be talked about.

Shuffleboard Memorial Tournament

May 4 starting at noon at the Royal Canadian Legion, Georgetown branch: Get ready for some shuffleboard fun at the Legion in downtown Georgetown. Cost is $5. There’ll also be food and prizes.

What a Wonderful World Concert

May 4 at 7 p.m. at Georgetown Christian Reformed Church: It’s time for the North Halton Community Singers’ spring concert. Tickets are $25 online and $30 at the door. Students can take advantage of $12 tickets and a family of four can enjoy the evening for $60. Group rates for 10 or more people are also available.

SUNDAY

Red Dress Day Ceremony

May 5 at 1 p.m. in the Old Seed House Garden gazebo at Dominion Gardens Park, Georgetown:  CFUW Georgetown is hosting a special ceremony for Red Dress Day, which honours the memory of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people.

Speakers at the event will include Halton Hills Councillor Jane Fogal on behalf of Mayor Ann Lawlor.

ALL WEEKEND

Frozen Jr.

May 4 to 6 at the John Elliott Theatre, Georgetown: Globe Productions is bringing its version of the Disney hit movie to the local stage. Shows will run on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m.

Canadian National Jigsaw Puzzle Competition

May 4 and 5 at the Gellert Community Centre: Canada’s best puzzle solvers are coming to Georgetown. Seven hundred competitors have registered for the Canadian National Jigsaw Puzzle Competition, which will run all weekend at the Gellert.

The competition runs from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Spectators are welcome and admission is free.
