It's almost time for the Halton District School Board's Parent Involvement Committee Conference.

The event is set for April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Elsie MacGill Secondary School in Milton.

Registration is open to HDSB parents and guardians.

The theme this year is 'Getting Connected," with the conference featuring keynote speaker Kristi Herold, founder and CEO of JAM and author of It Pays to PLAY

As a parent and a leader, the board said Herold will share her knowledge and experience with families on how they can foster a healthy and well-connected family and community.

Those who attend will learn how harnessing the power of play can improve mental health and well-being and support the development of essential life skills.

Following the keynote address, the 2024 PIC Conference will provide workshops for parents/guardians such as Self-Regulation and You, Anti-Sex Trafficking - Introduction and Awareness, Collaborative Problem Solving - Challenging Kids and All Kids Lack Skill, Not Will and many more, which the board said will be engaging and practical.

“As educators, we recognize the impact that strong family and community connections have on student success. This year’s Parent Involvement Committee Conference emphasizes the vital role of play in fostering meaningful connections,” said HDSB Superintendent of Education Tara Connor.

“By offering engaging workshops and an insightful keynote address, we aim to equip parents/guardians with the tools and resources they need to strengthen their family bonds and create bright futures for the students in our community.”

The board said child minding will be provided at no cost for children in kindergarten up to age 12. Morning refreshments and lunch are also provided.
