Halton Hills Public Library hopes local residents will explore myths and legends with them this summer.

The library team is ready to launch its 2022 Summer Reading Challenge for children, teens and adults, with a focus on fantasy and sci-fi works.

Things kick off at the Georgetown Farmers' Market launch party on June 18 from 8 a.m. to noon, where those interested can sign up for the reading challenge and enjoy carnival games, jousting and a bouncy castle.

“It’s a great way for book lovers to engage with their library, avoid the summer slide, have fun together, earn badges, win prizes and challenge themselves,” said Dani Austin, children’s services librarian.

The fun will continue on June 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Acton branch of the public library when they welcome a visitor from Sciensational Snakes.

The snake will be there to hear all your stories throughout the summer, and if you’d like to get up close and personal, stop by on Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. for a chance to touch or hold the snake.

All reading challenge participants can keep track of their reading progress on the Beanstack platform, which offers the chance to earn virtual badges and prizes.

Registration for the reading challenge starts on June 18.
