With traffic safety concerns in the area worsening, Halton Hills Council has approved speed bumps for the stretch of 5 Sideroad that runs by Pineview Public School.

The project was given the final go-ahead by the local politicians during their Monday (Nov. 20) meeting.

A report from Town traffic co-ordinator Roumen Kotev indicates that four speed bumps will be installed along 5 Sideroad, east of Trafalgar Road this year.

While the work was originally planned for 2024, concerned residents asked for the speed bumps to be put in place sooner following two collisions that occurred within a week of each other due to aggressive driving and high speeds.

“Aggressive driving within the Pineview School Zone on 5 Sideroad has been an ongoing concern with area residents,” Kotev explained in his report.

“Safety measures in the form of signs and pavement markings were installed over the years, with little effect on operating speeds. A road safety review determined that traffic calming measures are warranted within the school zone.”

The project is expected to cost $39,000, which will come from the Town’s capital replacement reserve.
