The plan for the Gellert Community Park (GCP) expansion is starting to take shape and Town staff want to know what residents think about it.

A second survey has been launched with a mock-up of what the future site near Eighth Line and Danby Road may look like, with an in-person open house slated for July 19 at 7 p.m. at the Gellert Community Centre.

Among the proposed new amenities for the park are:

  • Lit courts for pickleball, tennis and multi-purpose uses
  • A pump track with a shade structure for BMX cyclists and skateboarders
  • A looped skating area for the winter months
  • An open green for events
  • Playgrounds
  • A pavilion for performances.

"This was developed using public feedback from the first round of consultation, along with using technical committee input and the overall park design principles," the expansion's project manager Mark Taylor said in a video to residents.

The soccer field will be relocated. Shaded areas are planned along with drinking fountains and benches. Generous berms for some of the perimeter as a buffer between residents of the area and the park are part of the design. Looping, lit walking paths will connect all the amenities. The existing Gellert Community Centre is also planned for expansion.

A detailed view of the proposal can be found here.

Those who want the Town staff to know what they think can take the survey on the Let's Talk Halton Hills website or attend Wednesday's open house.

The survey will be available until September 7, with the final concept slated for council consideration and approval in the fall.
