Hundreds of young athletes will descend on Georgetown this weekend for the 2023 UA Rise flag football fall provincial championship tournament.

The event is slated for Saturday (Nov. 11) at Georgetown District High School and Christ the King Catholic Secondary School.

Set to be Ontario's largest youth flag football event of the year, the tournament will feature teams from the U8 to U16 divisions in a series of co-ed matches. Over 60 teams, totalling around 600 athletes, will compete for the title of the best UA Rise flag football team in Ontario.

This year’s event is also launching two all-girls open divisions in the grades 6-8 and high school categories, each featuring six teams. This initiative showcases over 120 female athletes from the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions, highlighting the growth and enthusiasm in women's flag football, says UA Flag Canada.

"UA Flag Canada is not just about organizing tournaments; it's about fostering a community and igniting a passion for flag football across the nation," said Jonathan Nedeljkovic, CEO and founder of UA Flag Canada.

"We're excited about hosting our first national championship tournaments in the spring and fall of 2024 and expanding internationally with tournaments in the US and Canada. With flag football now being a part of the 2028 Olympics, the spotlight on this sport has never been brighter. We're proud to be at the forefront of this growth and to acknowledge all flag programs serving their communities."
