May 3rd, 1934 – August 1st, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anna on Monday, August 1, 2022 at her home in Acton. She will be dearly missed by her husband John of 67 years, her daughter Cindy and her sister Alvera (Walter) Kowalski of Kitchener. She was also a cherished second Mom to Sherri Shuttleworth (Steve Gurgacz) of Barrie and Dale Pringle of Acton and was fondly known to their children as Nanna Anna. She was predeceased by her brother Norman Schnurr, her sisters Pat Gutscher, Henrietta Feddema, Rita Reitzel, sister-in-law Ruth Schnurr, brothers-in-law Harvey Gutscher, Herman Feddema, Walter Doiron, Leo Reitzel and her parents Henry and Cecilia (Moyer) Schnurr. She will also be missed by her very many nieces and nephews who she adored, her wonderful friends and neighbors and her very special extended family on the east coast.

Anna moved to Acton in 1968 and became very involved in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In 1971 she became a member of the Catholic Women’s League, was president for 3 years and has remained a member ever since. She was a hairdresser by trade but over the years held many different jobs at the local stores in Acton including Acton IGA, Profile Hair Salon, Gal’s Pal Ladies Wear, The Olde Hide House, Forever Christmas, Home Hardware and many more. While she always worked and volunteered in her community she also kept up her hairdressing in her home for those who wanted to come and see her. She joined the original Seniors Centre in Acton in 1992 and became a very active member and volunteer for many years, often working the front desk, always present to help at the bazaars and serving on primarily the social and craft committees. An incredibly creative person, she was passionate about her crafts and baking. Any spare time was filled with sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, macramé chairs, etc. and she was always excited to learn to make or bake something new. She loved to chat and meet new people and made friends instantly. Our door was always open for family, friends and neighbors to drop by anytime for a meal or just a tea and a visit. There was never a shortage of baking and goodies and she always made sure everyone left with a full tummy.

It was an honour to know Anna and those of us who did, were blessed to have her in our lives. She will be forever loved, always missed and live on in our hearts.

Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to honour Anna may donate to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society or a charity of your choice. Greatly appreciated by the family & Bridgette (her treasured kitty).
