Dorothy Barnard passed away on Monday March 4, 2024, at the age of 97 and became fully present with the Lord.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Charles and Clara Barnard, her sisters Sheila, Monica and Maureen, and her nephew Richard. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her nieces Deborah and Margo, and her nephew Charles.

Dorothy was born Dec 25, 1926, and grew up in Oakville, Ontario. Dorothy was passionate about the Lord and the importance of bringing others to Him. After high school she attended Emmaus Bible School for 3 years, and then was accepted as a missionary candidate by the Evangelical Union of South America. She delayed the start of her ministry, as she chose to stay home and care for her mother, who died 2 1/2 years later.

In October 1954 Dorothy arrived in Fortaleza Brazil for 7 months of Portuguese study. Then she transferred to Joao Pessoa Brazil to the Bethel Bible Institute where she taught Brazilian women to become missionaries. Dorothy spent most of her career in the Fortaleza, Ceara part of Brazil, bringing many people to Christ, teaching, ministering to, and caring for members of the community. Dorothy came back to Canada on furlough every 4 years. Calvary Baptist Church in Oakville was where she was nurtured, and where she shared her stories of her work when she was home. For many years following her retirement, she took trips back to Brazil to visit lifelong friends.

Dorothy persevered through all kinds of situations, was always ready to help in any way she could and never took no for an answer.

In her retirement, Dorothy lived in Oakville and then her final years in Amica Georgetown. In those later years Dorothy grew to love and support her new church family at Maple Avenue Baptist Church. Dorothy's family and friends wish to thank the staff at Amica for their care and compassion toward Dorothy especially in her final months.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Maple Avenue Baptist Church, 177 Maple Ave, Georgetown.
