With sadness, we announce the passing of Terence James McCartan. Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed peacefully in his sleep at Bethell Hospice on February 25, 2024 at the age of 82. He leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 43 years, Patricia. He is survived by Terence Jr. (Zoë,) his son from his first marriage to Marie. He is also survived by his daughters Sharon (Abel) and Erin (Gregory,) as well as his grandchildren Nolan, Oscar, Gabriel, Amelia, and Brendan.
Born in Belfast, Ireland, Terry joined the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars as soon as he was able, serving in Germany, Aden, and Malaysia. After leaving the army, he moved to Canada, where he met his wife, Patricia. Spending time in nature, reading, and socializing with friends at the Legion were his favourite pastimes, and later in life, watching his grandchildren grow brought him great joy.
The family extends deepest gratitude to the staff at Georgetown Hospital, Amica Peel Village, and Bethell Hospice for their kindness and care during his time of illness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the Jones Funeral Home 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with members of the Royal Canadian Legion honouring Terence's military service, and camaraderie.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Bethell Hospice Foundation are greatly appreciated.
