Georgetown man accused of arson in fatal house fire now charged with theft

The man was released from custody and will appear in court next month

A Georgetown man charged with arson following a fatal house fire last month has now been arrested for theft.

Halton Regional Police say they charged 38-year-old Christopher Dayfoot with theft under $5,000 today (March 5). 

According to police, the charge is related to a theft from a vehicle that took place in the area of Ontario and College streets in Georgetown on Jan. 24. Police didn't specify what was stolen.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a Milton court on April 15.

Dayfoot was arrested and charged last month with arson - disregard for human life in connection with a house fire on Victoria Street that claimed a woman's life.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
