Georgetown man facing slew of charges in human trafficking probe

Police allege he recruited victims into the sex trade and took their earnings

Viktor Semchyk is facing several human trafficking-related charges.

A Georgetown man has been arrested and charged with human trafficking and prostitution-related offences.

Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Specialized Enforcement Bureau “Vice Unit” commenced an investigation this month relating to victims involved in the sex trade within the region.  

Police alleged that the 32-year-old local man recruited and exploited victims into the sex trade and took their earnings. Vice investigators located victims allegedly being trafficked by the man. 

Viktor Semchyk is charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Human trafficking
  • Exercise control
  • Receiving benefits resulting from trafficking in persons
  • Procuring
  • Derive material benefit from sexual services
  • Advertisement.

He was held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice.

Investigators from the Specialized Enforcement Bureau Vice Unit believe there may be more victims of human trafficking and prostitution offences and/or witnesses to this investigation and are urging anyone with information to contact them at 905-453-2121, ext. 3555. The accused person is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
